Ipe Release
Thank you for exploring our Ipe Release. In the following sections, we aim to provide you with an overview of the exciting new features enabled by this update.
The Release is available from February 2024.
Important
This is a major update. It contains changes that require your attention. There are tasks that should be completed before and after updating. Please carefully review the Update Checklist to ensure everything is prepared for updating.
Technical Details
The Ipe Release is based on Microsoft Business Central Version 23. As a result, there are adjustments to the system requirements. Please refer to the complete list of system requirements for BC23.
Compared to BC22, there are minimal changes in system requirements. The only noticeable change is the specification of 22H2
as the minimum requirement for Windows 11 installations for the Server component.
However, there are changes that need to be considered if you are updating from earlier versions. Please check out the older release notes for details.
Business Central 23
The Ipe Version is based on Microsoft Business Central (BC) Version 23. This version introduces numerous new features for you to check out. You can find the full list here.

Performance Improvements
One focus topic of the Ipe Release is the overall performance. We did some huge improvements to some areas of timber. Combined with the new table extension schema and the new tri-state locking behavior of BC 23, there should be a noticeably improvement. Following are some details about these changes:
BC23 Changes
- New Locking Behavior The new behavior is explained here (technical). This change reduces the number of locks in the database, which should make the application faster, because the sql server does not need to wait for other sessions. The performance gain is more significant when multiple users work in the same area of the application.
Note
This feature need to be turned on for existing databases. You can do this by turning on the feature from the Feature Management page.
- New Table Extension Schema This is a huge improvements for customers that have a lot of extensions. The new Table Extension Schema is described here.
Timber
- Performance increase when refreshing production orders. In internal tests, we were able to reduce the time needed by more than 85% (from 57 seconds to 7 seconds). Keep in mind, the speed-up depends on how many production order lines you have.
- Improve Performance when calculating Disposition Planning and reduces locks. On an customer environment with a lot of orders, the calculation time was reduced from 3,5 Minutes to under 1 Minute, which is an increase of more than 70%.
- Posting Improvements There are a couple of improvements in the posting process to reduce locks and increase performance. One big improvement was made for the certificate posing which reduced the time needed for this part of the posting process by more than 85% (22 Seconds/per 1000 posted Masslines to 3 Seconds/per 1000 posted Masslines). Depending on the setup, it is even faster now.

Automatically Activated Features
The following acadon Features are now officially available. For a list of MS activated features, follow this link.
- Route Calendar Feature: This Feature is now generally available and is part of the timber app.
- Sort Documents descending: This feature was moved to the acadon modules page, allowing you to turn it on or off as needed.
Update Checklist
This is a major update and may contain breaking changes. Some of these changes require manual actions. Please carefully review this checklist for each environment before proceeding with the update.
Important
If you upgrade from earlier Versions, please read the update checklist/breaking changes of all versions that you skip as well. In this list you will only find the changes that are relevant if you update from Hazel to Ipe.
Required Actions
- Moved EDI Fields from Timber to EDI App There were a lot of EDI related fields in the timber app, that did not make sense in timber. The fields are now moved to the edi app. You have to compile your apps with the new version. If fields are missing in timber, please use the EDI fields instead. The usual pattern is the the Prefix "ACAT" is replaced by the prefix "ACAE". In rare cases, the name was changed slightly. The obsolete error should tell you the needed information what happened to the field.
Recommended Actions
- New Intrastat App Microsoft introduced a new Intrastat App and with the Ipe Release, the timber app will be compatible with this new app. The new Intrastat App will become mandatory with BC24, so if your customer is using Intrastat, it is highly recommended to check the new changes out before they become mandatory. You should install the following Apps in an Sandbox Environment: Intrastat Core, Localized Intrastat (DE, NL, ...), Intrastat Timber Connector. Afterwards the new feature can be activated: Set up Intrastat reporting
- Check for usage of old Reports
A couple of old obsolete Reports are now removed with this release. There is upgrade code to change these the new version, but this will mean a sudden change of the report layout. Depending on the customer, you should check the reports and communicate this change beforehand. The affected reports are the following:

- Cleanup unpublished Apps
With the new Table Extension Schema Model, it is recommended that all unpublished apps are cleaned up before doing the upgrade. This is recommended to prevent issues in the sync step. To do this, please check the
navappuninstalledapp
table on the sql server. These Apps need to be cleaned with ModeClean
so that orphaned extension metadata. - Support Worldwide Report 2.0 We have postponed the automatic activation of the "Support Worldwide Report 2.0" feature, because the telemetry showed that it is turned off in most environments. It will be active with the next major release, so please take the time to update customer reports to prevent issues in a future release.
