Definitions
The 3D Configurator uses specific terminology for the elements that make up a packaging model. Understanding these terms is essential for working effectively with the configurator.
Objects
An Object is the complete 3D packaging model being created or edited, such as a box, crate, or pallet. It contains all components and defines the overall dimensions and properties of the packaging.
Each object is defined within a BOM Calculation Template and can have multiple versions.
Components
A Component is an individual part of an object, such as a board, block, rail, or panel. Components are created and configured in the line area of the BOM Calculation Template.
Each component has the following characteristics:
- A position on a specific side of the object (defined by Component Type)
- Dimensions that can be fixed values or calculated using formulas and variables
- A layer assignment (defined by Layer Index) that determines the stacking order
- An alignment direction (defined by Distribution) - lengthwise or crosswise
Component Types
The Component Type field determines which side of the object a component belongs to:

| Bottom | The underside of the object |
| Lid | The top side of the object |
| Sides | The left and right sides of the object |
| Front | The front face of the object |
| Back | The rear face of the object |
| Presentation | A view showing the entire object (used for report sets) |
| Orthographic Presentation | A flat projection view of the entire object (used for report sets) |
Note
Presentation and Orthographic Presentation are special component types used primarily in report sets, not for structural definition.
