PPWR Technical Documentation
The PPWR technical documentation summarizes the material composition of a packaging and forms the basis for the EU declaration of conformity. acadon PPWR creates it as a snapshot from the production BOM of an item or item variant: for every component it captures the PPWR material, the net weight, and the substance restriction, recyclability and risk assessment details.
Note
A technical documentation is a snapshot. It records the state of the BOM and the PPWR details at the time it was created. If the master data changes later, you create a new version.
Prerequisites
Before you can create a technical documentation from a BOM, the following must be set up:
- The items and item variants involved are PPWR-classified. For more information, see Item Classification.
- The item or item variant has a production BOM. Without a BOM, no technical documentation can be calculated.
- A number series is entered in the Technical Documentation Nos. field on the PPWR Setup page.
How to create a technical documentation
- Choose the
icon, enter Items, and then choose the related link. - Open the required item. For a variant-specific documentation, open the Item Variants instead.
- On the ribbon, choose the PPWR action group and then Create Technical Documentation.... The Create PPWR Technical Documentation wizard opens.
- Set the Documentation Source field to Own Bill of Materials. acadon PPWR proposes the source based on the item's Replenishment System: for Purchase the Vendor Declaration is preselected, otherwise Own Bill of Materials.
- Choose Finish and confirm the prompt. acadon PPWR reads the production BOM, resolves the PPWR details for every component, and calculates the net weights.
- The new technical documentation is created with a number and version and then opened.
Note
Using the same wizard, you can also create a manually filled-in documentation from a vendor's declaration by choosing the Vendor Declaration source. For more information, see Vendor Technical Documentation.
Tip
If a component is missing a PPWR detail (material, substance restriction, recyclability or risk assessment) or its weight cannot be calculated, acadon PPWR reports this per component. Complete the details on the item, the variant or the item category and repeat the creation.
How existing documentations are reused
When acadon PPWR reads the production BOM, it checks every component for a technical documentation of its own. If a component (an item or item variant) already has a current technical documentation – either its own or one supplied by a vendor – acadon PPWR references that documentation instead of breaking the component's production BOM down any further.
For such a component:
- The Net Weight and Risk Assessment are taken from the referenced documentation and scaled by the quantity used in the BOM.
- The material composition and the substance restriction and recyclability details are not copied into the new documentation. They are resolved from the referenced documentation whenever they are needed – in the material statistics and in the printed EU Declaration of Conformity and Packaging Component Compliance Declaration.
This avoids declaring the same sub-component's materials again in every higher-level documentation and keeps them consistent with the sub-component's own documentation. As with any technical documentation, the referenced version is recorded, so the result remains a fixed snapshot.
The PPWR Technical Documentation page
A technical documentation created from a BOM is read-only, because it documents a fixed state. The General FastTab shows the header data, and the Lines FastTab shows the individual components.
Header fields
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| No. | Specifies the number of the technical documentation. |
| Version | Specifies the version of the technical documentation. A number can have several versions. |
| Status | Specifies the status of the technical documentation (New, Certified, Under Development or Closed). |
| Source Type | Specifies whether the documentation was created from an item or an item variant. |
| Description | Specifies the description of the technical documentation. |
| Risk Assessment | Specifies the overall risk assessment. It equals the worst risk assessment of all components. |
| Total Net Weight | Specifies the total net weight of all components. |
| Created At / Created By | Specify when and by whom the documentation was created. |
Line fields
Each line represents one component of the packaging. For every component, the PPWR Material, Net Weight, Quantity per and the details Substance Restriction, Recyclability and Risk Assessment that were valid at the time of creation are recorded.
Show the material statistics
Use the Statistics action to open an analysis that groups the components by PPWR material. For each material you see the accumulated Net Weight and its Percentage of the total packaging weight. This shows at a glance which materials account for the largest share of the weight. Components that reference their own documentation contribute the materials of that referenced documentation.
Versions and status
A number can have several versions; exactly one version is the current one. The status controls whether a documentation can still be edited:
- New – The documentation has been created.
- Certified – The documentation is released and is no longer changed. A new version is created for further changes.
- Under Development – A new version that is being revised.
- Closed – The documentation is no longer used and can no longer be changed.
If you repeat the creation for the same item, acadon PPWR compares the result with the current version. If neither the BOM nor the PPWR details have changed, no new version is created. Use the Show All Versions action to display the historical versions in addition to the current one.
Print declarations of conformity
From a technical documentation, you print the related declarations using the EU Declaration of Conformity and Packaging Component Compliance Declaration actions. For more information, see Declarations of Conformity.
Show the documentations of an item
Use the PPWR > Open Technical Documentation action on the item or item variant card to show all technical documentations created for that source.
