Additional Material

The Additional Material feature allows you to define supplementary packing materials that are not part of the main BOM calculation but are required alongside the calculated components. These materials are added directly to the production order when a variant is configured.

Unlike regular template lines, additional materials are not subject to formula-based calculations. They represent fixed items with static dimensions and quantities that accompany every production order created from the template.

How to Add Additional Material

  1. Choose the Search icon, enter BOM Calculation Template List, and then choose the related link.
  2. Open the BOM Calculation Template to edit.
  3. In the action bar, choose the Additional Material action.
  4. In the Item No. field, select the item to add. The Description is populated automatically from the item card.
  5. Specify the Group, dimensions, and Quantity as needed.

Fields and Options

Field Description
Item No. The item number of the additional material. Only inventory and non-inventory items that are not blocked can be selected.
Item Variant An optional item variant code for the selected item.
Description The description of the material, automatically populated from the item card. Can be edited manually. Items without an item number display in bold as group headers.
Group The group code that determines how this line is grouped in the production order BOM.
Length The length dimension of the material.
Width The width dimension of the material.
Thickness The thickness dimension of the material.
Quantity The quantity of the material to include per production order.
Tip

Lines without an Item No. serve as text or grouping lines. Their description is displayed in bold to visually separate different material groups.

When to Use Additional Material

Use additional material for items that are always needed alongside the calculated BOM components but do not depend on property values or formulas. Typical examples include:

  • Fasteners (nails, screws, staples)
  • Adhesives and tapes
  • Labels or printed inserts
  • Protective films or wrapping

For materials whose quantity or dimensions depend on configuration properties, use regular template lines with calculation expressions instead.
