How to demonstrate Timber with the acadon Demo Tool

To provide easier ways to test and demonstrate Timber, acadon offers a demo tool with demo data. To enable the tool and create the demo data follow these steps in a Business Central test environment.

Important

Do not use the Demo Tool in a live environment. The tool generates demo data that is irreversible.

1. Install the Timber app in your test environment

Make sure the acadon Timber365 app is installed in your test environment.

  • Open the Extension Management page and confirm the Is Installed column is checked for acadon Timber365.
Note

If Timber is not installed, contact your acadon consultant for assistance.

2. Check if the Contoso Coffee Demo Datasets are installed in your test environment

The acadon Demo Tool uses Microsoft’s standard demo datasets.

  • On the Extension Management page, confirm the Is Installed column is checked for:
    • Contoso Coffee Demo Dataset app
    • Contoso Coffee Demo Dataset (country ID) app

If they are not installed, add the apps from the marketplace.

3. Create a new company

Create a new company to use with the demo data.

  1. Go to Companies.
  2. Click on the downward arrow next to New and click on Create New Company.
  3. In the window that opens, click Next.
  4. Enter a company name and select Production - Setup Data Only from the dropdown.
  5. Click Next until you reach the final page, then choose Finish.

It can take a few minutes to create the company.

4. Switch to the new company

Switch to the company you created: follow the steps on the switch company page.

5. Activate the Demo Tool

  1. Go to acadon Demo Tool.
  2. If you see a notification when you open this page, click on Activate to activate the Demo Tool.
  3. In the pop-up that opens, turn on the This is a demo company toggle and click OK.

If no notification appears, the Demo Tool is already activated.

6. Generate Timber demo data

After activation, generate demo data using the modules in the acadon Demo Tool.

Base Setup

With this module basic Timber settings are generated, similar to executing the Setup Wizard with all settings enabled.

  1. In the acadon Demo Tool, select the Base Setup.
  2. Click on Generate in the top menu.
Note

You may see a role center notification about setup not being finished. You can ignore it; it disappears after reopening the company.

Base Module

Generates base data (Customers, Vendors, Locations) and some documents.

  1. In the acadon Demo Tool, select the Base Module.
  2. Click on Configure in the top menu.
  3. In the configuration window, fill in the Posting Groups and set the Demo Company Location field.
  4. Return to the acadon Demo Tool, select the Base Module and click on Generate.

Sales Module

Generates sales data (Sales Quotes, archived Sales Quotes).

  1. In the acadon Demo Tool, select the Sales Module.
  2. Click on Generate in the top menu.

Import Module

Generates import-related data (Vessels, Containers, Travel Numbers) and some purchase documents.

  1. In the acadon Demo Tool, select the Import Module.
  2. Click on Configure in the top menu.
  3. In the window that opens, fill out all Posting Groups.
  4. Go back to the acadon Demo Tool, select the Import Module again and click on Generate.

Logistic Module

Generates logistics data (Vehicles, Tour Drivers, Route Allocations) and some sales documents.

  1. In the acadon Demo Tool, select the Logistic Module.
  2. Click on Generate in the top menu.

7. Demonstrate Timber

After generating demo data, test and demonstrate Timber features. See the Business Functionality overview page for scenarios to showcase.
