Copy description to sales
From a sales document, a related production order can be created. The related production order can be for a so called sundry item or a regular inventory item. In the case of a sundry item the description of how the product is manufactured and which components are used is normally a manual effort.
With the copy description to sales the user doesn’t have to type in the sales comment lines manually with the manufacturing details. With a simple action in the Production Worksheet the information is transferred from the production order routing group and the prod. order components to the sales line comment lines.
- Setup which information is needed to be copied.
- Insert sales comment lines from production orders.
- Update sales comment lines from production orders.

Setup which information is needed to be copied
User Setup
The first part of setting up the Copy Description To Sales is in the user setup.
- Choose the
icon, enter User Setup, and then choose the related link. - Select the relevant user, and then choose the Production Settings action.
- On the Production Settings page there is the Copy Decr. to Sales field and there can be setup how the information is transferred:
- Automatically - On closing of the Production Worksheet the information is transferred automatically.
- Manually (default) - The Insert Description in Sales Comment Lines action in the Production Worksheet needs to manually selected.
- Confirmation Dialog - On closing of the Production Worksheet there is a confirmation dialog presented where the user can select to option.
Standard Task Setup
The second part of the setup is on the Standard task, there can be defined which descriptions are transferred by default.
- Choose the
icon, enter Standard Tasks, and then choose the related link. - Select the relevant standard task, and then choose the Card action.
- On the general tab of the Standard Task Card activate the Copy Description to Sales field. If this field is activated and then standard task is selected in the prod. order routing group the information about copying the information to sales is set on the prod. order routing group.
Item Setup
The third part of the setup is on the Item Card
- Choose the
icon, enter Items, and then choose the related link. - Select the relevant item and thoose to edit the item.
- On the Replenishment fasttab activate the Copy Description to Sales field, this applies only for items that are used as components in the production order.
Note
The setting on the item card is only going to have affect if there is prod. order routing group with the flag Copy Description to Sales activated.
Create a sales order with production order connected and copy the description
This part describes how to copy the description from the production order to the sales order.
- Choose the
icon, enter Sales Order, and then choose the related link. - Create a new sales order with one or multiple lines. Use the action Create Prod. Order to create a production order for the sales order line(s).
- Open the Production Worksheet from the sales order line.
- Add a standard task to the production order routing group, that has the flag Copy Description to Sales activated.
- Add a component to the production order that has the flag Copy Description to Sales activated.
Note
If there is no prod. order routing group with the flag Copy Description to Sales activated, then the Copy Description to Sales action is not executed for the components.
- Close the Production Worksheet and the information is transferred to the sales order line comment lines if in User Setup the field Copy Decr. to Sales is set to Automatically or Confirmation Dialog and the user selects Yes in the confirmation dialog. If the field Copy Decr. to Sales is set to Manually then the action Copy Description to Sales needs to be selected manually.
