Configuration Permissions
The Configuration Permissions module controls user access to product configuration features. By assigning permission levels to individual users, you can ensure that only authorized personnel create new variant configurations, while other users work within defined tolerances or select from existing variants.
Permission Levels
Each user can be assigned one of the following permission levels in the user setup:

| Full Configuration | The user has unrestricted access to all configuration functions and can create new variants without limitations. |
| Tolerance Configuration | The user can configure products within defined tolerance ranges. Configurations outside the tolerance require approval. |
| Restricted Selection | The user can only select from existing variants. New configurations must be submitted through the approval workflow. |
How to Activate the Module
- Choose the
icon, enter acadon Module Management, and then choose the related link. - Locate the Configuration Permissions module in the list.
- Enable the module.
Once enabled, the permission fields become available in the user setup and the approval workflow actions appear on sales and planning lines.
How to Assign Permissions
- Choose the icon, enter User Setup, and then choose the related link.
- Select the user to configure.
- Set the Configurator Permission field to the desired permission level.
Tolerance Configuration
When a user has the Tolerance Configuration permission level, the system compares the configured property values against the existing variant values. A tolerance percentage (default: 10%) determines how much the new configuration may deviate from an existing variant.
The Variant Difference view shows a side-by-side comparison of the configured values and the closest existing variant, highlighting any deviations. The Tolerance Scoring evaluates whether the overall configuration falls within the acceptable tolerance range.
Approval Workflow
Users with Restricted Selection or Tolerance Configuration permissions (when exceeding tolerances) can submit configuration requests for approval:
- Create the configuration in the sales line or planning line.
- Use the Request Approval action to submit the configuration for review.
- Approvers can Approve, Reject, Delegate, or Comment on the request.
- Status changes are automatically documented for full traceability.
Note
The approval workflow uses standard Business Central approval functionality. Approval templates are created automatically when the module is installed.
Tip
Set initial tolerance values in the configurator setup before assigning Tolerance Configuration permissions to users. The default tolerance is 10%.
